Brick Paver Reads: In Memory of Gary R. Butzin
Testimonial from Beth Butzin
It seemed like just another day on March 17, 2006, St. Patrick’s Day. I got up, went to work, and when I returned home that day my entire life was changed forever. I found my husband of 37 years, my best friend and soul mate, had died and went to heaven.
As I struggled to accept the fact that he’d no longer be by my side, I decided that I needed to do something for him so that his memory would stay alive forever. I had heard that the Memorial Hospital Foundation was selling bricks to put around the statue of the new Physical Therapy rehab unit. I knew people would walk there and see his name on his brick and say, “Hey I remember him or I knew him.”
I walk at Spiegel Grove a lot and I will go across to the Physical Therapy Trail to see my husband’s brick and walk the trail there too. Seeing his name on the brick brings me comfort. His brick will be there for years to come for his children and grandchildren to see as well as strangers who never knew him. He will never be forgotten.
