Hospice Heart's Desire Fund

Many of us have grand, elaborate wishes and others have soft, quiet desires. The Heart’s Desire Fund through the Foundation allows Hospice of Memorial Hospital patients and their families to fulfill these wishes and desires whenever possible.

Some wishes that have been granted in the past include:

  • A Care-A-Van was arranged to drive a farmer around his property for the last time. He was proud to see the land his son will inherit.
  • A local photographer took a portrait of one woman’s family in her home; one last, complete portrait she can leave to her family.
  • A father wished to take his two young children on one last family vacation; an all-expense getaway was arranged at Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, Ohio.

Fulfilled desires during the ebb of our lives can leave profound imprints on our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This program is funded entirely through generous donations from our community members. Thank you for making their dreams come true.

Hospice of Memorial Hospital assists community members who are dealing with terminal illness, death, and the grief and bereavement process. Hospice is a philosophy of care, recognizing death as the final stage of life, allowing patients to continue living alert and pain free lives. Hospice care treats the person rather than the disease; the care highlights quality rather than quantity of life.

Hospice Hearts Desire FuneThe majority of hospice care in the United States is provided in the home with family members serving as the main hands-on caregivers. Hospice of Memorial Hospital provides patient and family care in a patient’s home or nursing home where the patient is residing, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

“With the help of the Hospice Heart’s Desire Fund, I am able to be mobile. Without the chair, I would have gotten to the point where I could never leave my home. Thankfully, I never got to that point.” Leon (Lee) Hoover, Recipient of the Hospice Heart’s Desire Fund
