Mobile Meals Fund
To facilitate the Mobile Meals program, the meals are all planned and prepared by Memorial Hospital’s Dietitian and Dietary Department to meet subscribers’ nutritional needs. A typical hot meal includes meat, potato, vegetable, salad, dessert, and milk. Volunteers deliver these hot meals Monday through Friday, using their personal cars, operating at their own expense.
To help defray the costs of Mobile Meals, the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital established a fund through the Memorial Hospital Foundation. The Auxiliary sponsors the annual Christmas Greeting Project, asking local businesses, organizations, and individuals to donate to the fund. In exchange, their names are printed on a giant holiday card that is published by The News-Messenger.
Because most of our subscribers cannot afford the full cost of a meal, Memorial Hospital requests that subscribers contribute at least $2 per meal. The remainder of the cost per meal is paid for through generous contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations in the community who recognize the value of Mobile Meals and want to see this service continue.
