Memorial Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals. The accreditation award recognizes Memorial Hospital’s dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.

Memorial Hospital underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey in November 2011. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated the entire hospital for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. This accreditation covers all hospital services and off-site clinics, except for the laboratory and home care services. The Memorial Hospital laboratory and home care services each underwent separate surveys; the laboratory and home care services also earned their own Gold Seals of Approval.

Ann Smith, R.N., M.P.H., C.I.C., director of quality and infection control at Memorial Hospital attributes this latest accreditation to comprehensive quality improvement processes that have been implemented at the hospital over the past several years. “Memorial Hospital’s associates have been committed to ensuring that we meet the toughest quality standards in the nation. The Joint Commission’s hospital standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
